Being a grandfather on Father’s Day is incredibly special. Not only do you have your own children, but you have your children’s children to love and to cherish. And for some, like me, to remember.
Kyra was about two and a half when she was taken from us. This will be my first Father’s Day without her. I’ll miss her calling me. I’ll miss her smile. But I’ll never forget the love she gave and the joy she brought to me.
We would dance together. We read stories. We played ball. Like any Grandfather, I just wanted to spend time with her. She always made me smile.
The love I feel for Kyra will never cease and never diminish.
As a father and a grandfather, I urge you to embrace your little ones and hold them tight. Let them feel your love. And, if you can’t physically hold them, as I can no longer hold Kyra, then keep them in your heart. Remember the great joy you had with them, as I remember the joyous times I had with Kyra, but for too short of a time.
Kyra is with God now. On this Father’s Day, I’ll remember her voice calling me. She’d sing out, “Gan-PA…let’s dance.” And I will dance with her….in my prayers and in my heart. Kyra, I love you and I miss you, but I know you are wishing me a happy Father’s Day.
Love,
Gan-PA!
